James L. Drone’s desire to write had its infancy during his freshman year in high school. Of the many papers he was required to write, one involved a description of an adventure he had experienced. His first love of the outdoors was fishing. He had taken many fishing trips to the Ozarks with his family.
Thus, he described a walk down a trail to a trout stream. It was autumn. The verdant leaves were bursting into vibrant colors of the rainbow. The air was crisp and analeptic, and the chilly stream flowed lazily. He transposed the physical stimuli he felt into the description of his walk. As a result of this particular writing exercise, he caught the bug to write.
Even though he went on to pursue a law degree, he felt a yearning to write and began composing the characters and a storyline in his mind. It wasn’t until 1998 that he decided to rekindle those emotions and transform it into human relationships portrayed in his first book, Silence Within The Storm. The relationships described in this book are syntheses of the many and varied personalities he has encountered during his professional career and personal life.
Drone grew up in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from St. Louis University. He practiced business law until he moved to Houston, Texas, where he and his family currently reside. He continues to practice law and write, working on his next book. He is an avid outdoorsman and traveler. He has visited many countries in Africa, Asia and Europe, as well as the jungles of Mexico and Costa Rica, the mountainous regions of southern Brazil, New Zealand, the Alaskan peninsulas and the Canadian Artic tundra.
